SEND TEXT MESSAGES

When we send texts, also called text banking, we are sending large numbers of messages to cell phones. This is an extremely efficient way to reach out to voters. You can send 100-500 texts in a matter of minutes from the comfort of your home (or wherever you have internet access!).

HOW THE RESISTANCE CAFÉ CAN HELP YOU STAY FOCUSED ON TAKING ACTION!

Texting is sending a message to someone’s Smartphone. When we text to voters, we do not use our cell phone texting plan. We text through the software of other organizations. We can do this on our iPads or computers.

WHY DO ORGANIZATIONS LIKE TEXTING?

Organizations and candidates text for many reasons, such as:

  • Getting Out The Vote (GOTV) for a specific candidate or group of candidates
  • Helping folks register to vote
  • Encouraging people to call their representatives about a specific issue or bill
  • Doing deeper identification of voters and their attitudes on specific issues

WHY DOES TEXTING WORK?

Texting works because people read text messages, especially if they are short and to the point. Texting also gives the recipient an easy and largely anonymous way to engage in a conversation with the person sending the text if they have questions or comments. Because you can send such a large number of text messages so quickly, it is extremely efficient and, therefore, a good use of your time.

    TEXT TRAINING

We partner with various organizations for our texting activities.  They provide regular training sessions, tips and tools to get started.

When you first start texting, it can seem confusing (it isn’t when you’ve done it for a while!). We recommend that you take the training once, try a bit of texting and then take the training again.
