How To Use Twitter: Critical Tips For New Users | WIRED

WHY IS TWEETING EFFECTIVE?

When you tweet, you are sending a succinct written message (max of 280 characters). You reach anyone who is “following” you and you can tag messages so that a broader audience can search for your messages.

Twitter has become increasingly popular with policymakers, politicians and the general public. Many users struggled to understand what Twitter is and how they could use it, but it has now become the social media platform of choice for many.

The snappy nature of tweets means that Twitter is widely used by smartphone users who don’t want to read long content items on-screen.

Twitter allows you to:

  • Reach a large number of people quickly through tweets and retweets
  • Follow politicians, issues, etc.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest news and developments of issues that are important to you, and share that information with others instantly
  • Follow and contribute to discussions on events
